Week 2 - Tuesday 20 January


Project: Wiki Home Page

Materials:

  1. Laptop (optional, but helpful)
  2. Images
  3. Words
We will create accounts on the Art100 wiki for all students in class tonight. We'll go over the basics of wiki editing and get started on making "Profile" or "Home" pages for each student. This page will be an "art project" in its own right, as well as the Home Page from which each student makes links to all their other projects this semester.



Week 3 - Tuesday 27 January


Project: Right-Brain Drawing & Tandem Drawing

Materials:
  1. Pencil
  2. Paper - 8-1/2 x 11 white, unlined, not torn from a spiral pad - a few sheets. Larger paper is even better.
We will draw! It will be easy! It will be fun! It will be painless!
  • Project Directions: given in class.
  • Points: 20

Week 4 - Tuesday 3 February


Project: Photo 1: Composition & Cropping

Materials:
  1. Digital Camera - 1/group is sufficient - if anybody has an SLR, even better
We will compose images "in camera" in class and also shoot images for later cropping. The in-class compositions and the after class croppings will all be posted on the wiki. Each group only needs 1 wiki page for the group. Each person will have wiki links from their home page to the group project page & back.



Week 5 - Tuesday 10 February


Project: Photo 2: Lighting

Materials:
  1. Digital Camera - 1/group is sufficient



Week 6 - Tuesday 17 February


Project: Artist's Books

Materials:
  1. Paper - size & type of your choice, 5 sheets + 1 cover sheet (heavier) - will fold these in 1/2 to make book
  2. Pick, Foam Backing, Needle, Thread - provided by Glenn
Brief Description:
Bring some nice paper for the inside of your book... and some fancy paper for the cover of your book. We'll sew these books in class... and then next week decorate them with the relief print "potato cuts" we make in class.

Week 7 - Tuesday 24 February


Project: Relief Printing

Materials:
  1. Potato
  2. Knife to cut it in 1/2 (don't pre-cut)
  3. Something to carve in potato with - ballpoint pen / x-acto knife / woodcut or linoleum-cut tools
  4. Your book from last week
  5. Ink & rollers - provided by Glenn
Brief Description:
Tonight we will make relief prints (Potato Cuts) and print them on paper. We'll go around the room with our books from last week and collect the "stamps" of our classmates.

Week 8 - Tuesday 3 March


Project: Pinhole Camera - Part I

Materials:
  1. Some sort of box that you can make light tight - oatmeal box, etc
  2. Black Paper Tape
  3. Flat Black Spray Paint (do this part at home!)
  4. Brass Shim Stock (thin walled aluminum can)
  5. Scissors
  6. Needle (provided by Glenn)
Pinhole Camera Video
Brief Description:
We will make Pinhole Cameras in class this week. We'll make pinholes and check the light-tightness of our cameras. The inside of your camera should be spray-painted flat black - at home - either before or after this week, but before next week.

Week 9 - Tuesday 10 March


Project: Pinhole Camera - Part II

Materials:
  1. Something to take a picture of (long exposure, so static objects best)
Brief Description:
This week we'll use our cameras to shoot & develop one or more photographs during class. Bring some object or still-life set-up that you can put in front of your pinhole camera to photograph. Turn in your best print at the end of class.
